Therapy for Parents & Caregivers in New Jersey

Caring for someone you love can change nearly every part of your life. Whether you're parenting a child or adult with a disability or complex needs, or caring for a loved one with a chronic medical condition, caregiving can become a role that never fully turns off. You may spend your days managing appointments, advocating, making decisions, worrying about the future, and making sure everyone else is okay.

But who is taking care of you?

At Vida Wellness & Counseling Services, we provide compassionate therapy for parents and caregivers throughout New Jersey who need a space for their own emotional well-being.

When You're Always the Strong One

Caregiving can hold love, purpose, worry, grief, frustration, exhaustion, and hope—all at the same time. Loving someone deeply doesn't mean caregiving isn't hard. You may be experiencing:

  • Caregiver stress, burnout, or emotional exhaustion

  • Anxiety and constant worry about your loved one

  • Guilt when prioritizing your own needs

  • Difficulty setting boundaries or asking for help

  • Feeling responsible for keeping everything together

  • Grief or uncertainty after a loved one's diagnosis

  • Feeling isolated or misunderstood

  • Changes in relationships or family roles

  • Losing touch with who you are outside of caregiving

You don't have to wait until you're completely burned out to ask for support.

Therapy for Parents of Children & Adults With Disabilities

Parenting doesn't necessarily become easier when your child gets older—it may simply change.

Parents caring for children or adults with developmental disabilities, complex needs, or ongoing support needs may find themselves balancing caregiving, advocacy, appointments, school or support systems, work, relationships, and concerns about the future. Therapy gives you a place to talk about your experience—including the feelings you may not feel comfortable saying out loud.

You can love your child completely while also feeling tired, worried, frustrated, or unsure of what comes next. Both can be true.

Caregiver Support for Chronic Illness

When someone you love develops a chronic illness or significant medical condition, their diagnosis can change your life, too.

You may suddenly find yourself becoming an advocate, managing medical responsibilities, adjusting plans, or worrying about what the future will look like.

Therapy can help you process these changes, manage anxiety and uncertainty, establish healthier boundaries, and find ways to care for yourself while continuing to care for someone you love.

Finding Yourself Again

For many caregivers, one of the hardest questions becomes: “Who am I outside of taking care of everyone else?”

Therapy isn't about simply telling you to practice more “self-care.” We understand that caregiving responsibilities are real and that taking time for yourself isn't always easy. Instead, therapy can help you identify what you need, explore realistic changes, strengthen coping skills, set boundaries, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been pushed aside.

You are more than the responsibilities you carry.
